These effects risk generating increased migration pressures, increased organised transboundary crime, and potential mass economic disruption to South Sudan.

Although UNMISS has an appropriate mandate to address these new challenges, it remains uncertain whether the peacekeeping force will be able to adequately respond to all these threats while simultaneously supporting South Sudan’s upcoming elections.
